This Sega Saturn Prototype Can Be Yours For $10,000

With Hyperdimension Neptunia (a game whose lead character is based on an unreleased Sega console) burning up the Steam charts, this story seems oddly appropriate to report. The Sega Saturn Pluto, a prototype console developed by Sega which was shelved once the Dreamcast became their focus, is now up for sale on eBay.

With no one too eager to make an offer yet and the asking price sitting at $10,000, it’s quite the pricey little coffee table conversation piece. It’s also worth noting that the console has no working parts and was only used as a model to show others what the final console might have looked like. Still, it’s something diehard (and wealthy) collectors might have an interest in.

The Pluto was nothing more than a Sega Saturn with a built-in modem, which was unheard of at the time, and was one of the reasons this writer loved the Dreamcast. A working Pluto showed up online a couple years ago, and no one has been willing to fork over the cash for that one, either.
