Shenmue fans have had it rough for years. While the original and its sequel painted a grandiose, emotionally charged story, that particular story has been left unfinished for years as Sega has seemingly moved on to other projects.
We’ve seen blatant teasing from creator and mastermind Yu Suzuki, as well as fans who spread word of false trademarks by Sega, and we’ve even seen Suzuki himself tease an official announcement for a third game … and yet nothing has come out into the light.
You’re probably wondering what all of these gorgeous assets are from? Some kind of HD texture pack for the game created by modders? Well, not quite.
Well, for now we’ve gotten a look at what a potential next-generation Shenmue could look like, via an entrepreneuring Korean fan who goes by the handle Nokon Kid. Featured up top you can view his work, which is an HD remake of the city of Yokosuka, which is the first area within the original game.
I implore you to view more of the screenshots from the project, which can be found on Nokon Kid’s original post.
