Flying Carpet Games have been developing a very special game titled The Girl and the Robot, only to recently put it up on Kickstarter to have it get a final push to completion.
The team is made up of ex Gameloft and EA members, they are scattered all throughout the world including Canada, England and Japan. They embarked on creating their own studio to pursue more creative freedom.
The game calls back to classics such as Ico, The Ocarina of Time, and of course – the work of Studio Ghibli. The art style is very bright and gorgeous, you can see an example of the game running above.
You can check out their kickstarter pitch below:
You play as either the girl or the robot knight from a third person perspective, and combat seems to be somewhat tactical, rewarding players who don’t go in hacky slashy. There will be puzzles, naturally the developers will be challenging you as you switch between the girl and the robot. Alternating between both of them will be crucial if you want to progress through the game.
The story is mysterious, although the developers have said that the game is set within a fairy tale, whether that means you’ll see typical themes associated with them remains to be seen. The girl is somehow able to control the robot, which you’ll probably find the reason for later in the game. The core principle behind The Girl and the Robot is friendship, and boy does this game give me the feels.
If The Girl and the Robot has gotten your attention, you can pledge on their kickstarter here.
