The Witcher Season 3 gets first trailer with Henry Cavill’s last time as Geralt

The Witcher Season 3

Netflix has finally shared a teaser trailer for The Witcher Season 3, the final season with Henry Cavill starring as the titular beastslayer.

The first teaser for The Witcher season 3 gives a tiny look at Cavill stepping into the boots of Geralt of Rivia for the final time – before he gets recast by Liam Hemsworth for Season 4.

Fans will be able to watch the first five episodes on June 29th, with the final three episodes coming later – on July 27th. Netflix teased Henry’s last season as Geralt as a “heroic sendoff” for the beloved actor.

“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4,” Cavill said at the time. “In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf”

While Cavill’s departure from The Witcher was abrupt and unexpected, he quickly followed up with the delightful news he’d return to play Superman in an upcoming Warner Bros. film – only to have DC Studios’ new boss James Gunn reject him. Cavill isn’t bothered, it seems, as he’s much happier working on his beloved Warhammer franchise with a big new TV show.

Here’s a brief blurb on the new season, plus the new trailer:

As monarchs, mages and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever.

Cavill stars as Geralt alongside Freya Allen as princess of Cintra, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg with returning supporting cast members Joey Batey, Eamon Farren, Mimi Ndiweni, and more.
