The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt PC Player Numbers on Steam Currently Higher Than Launch Week

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has seen a sudden surge in players on Steam this week, higher than the game’s peak during its launch week.

SteamDB, Steam Charts, and Steam itself are all reporting record numbers for the game. You can find a screenshot of what they looked like at this time of writing below:

The initial peak of around 92,000 players on launch week has been eclipsed by 94,000 players this week, according to Steam Charts and Steam itself (though SteamDB cite only 85,000 players).

It is no secret the recent live-action Netflix show has generated interest for old fans and new, along with main actor Henry Cavil’s comments in support of PC being the best gaming platform.

It also certainly helps that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is currently 70% off on Steam (along with its expansion pass bundle at 60% off), giving more temptation to those interested. Other factors also include the Holiday season in the US and Europe, giving everyone a little more free time.

Even the original books have been affected, with author and creator of The Witcher Andrzej Sapkowski currently being Amazon’s number 1 author– above Harry Potter author J.K.Rowling. This also comes just after Sapkowski and CD Projekt Red had announced they were solidifying their relationship with a new agreement, after a tenuous year prior.

The Witcher (the Netflix live-action show) has not fueled this resurgence unjustly. Rotten Tomatoes reports a 93% on audience score (though only 59% from critics), and IMDB cites a user score of 8.6. The show was greenlit for a second season in mid-November this year.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is now available for Windows PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. In case you missed it – you can read our review for the base game here (we highly recommend it, it was our 2015 game of the year!)
