The Witch and the Hundred Knight Revival Announced

the witch and the hundred knight 04-16-15-2

Nippon Ichi Software has launched a teaser countdown website for a new title, but it seems like we’ve already learned (via Hokanko-Alt) it’s for a new version of The Witch and the Hundred Knight.

The teaser website only features the letters “Re,” but a Japanese blog discovered the full logo in the website’s source:

the witch and the hundred knight 04-16-15-1

The game, originally launched for the Playstation 3 last year, had a freshness to it but was known to have some technical issues. This new version, dubbed The Witch and the Hundred Knight Revival, could possibly be either for the Playstation 4, or Playstation Vita, as Nippon Ichi Software previously stated their future games would only be coming to either of those two platforms.

Given the game had its technical issues, we’re inclined to think Revival will probably be a PS4 title, but we’ll know for sure when the countdown runs out on Monday, April 20 at 11:00 a.m. ET. In case you missed our review of The Witch and the Hundred Knight, you can find that here.

We’ll keep you guys posted.

Glad i waited. I was interested in this and I hope the apparent bugs are fix this time.

I’m betting VITA. NIS has always seems to put their remakes in the PlayStation handhelds (along with HtL#NiQ)

Running the page through google they say it could be a remake or sequel apparently?
Honestly I kind of want a sequel, and with the name they’re using for it it could honestly go either way.

It could be either TBH. The name sort of implies a remake/port of sorts, but we’ll see.

So how many game crashing bugs is NISA gonna put in it this time when they localize it?

Well the name also definitely fits with the end of the original game as well.

AAAAAAAAAH!! FUCK YES! I don’t care if it’s a remake or sequel (though the game left zero room for a sequel) but WOOOOOOOH! FUCKIN’ WOOOOOOH!

AW FUCKING ROTTEN DAMN IT! I forgot this majesty needs to pass through the shitstain halls of NISA.
And if any NISA staff reads this, I’m sure that was a very mean spirited thing to say, and I’d apologize if YOU FIXED THE GAME YOU FUCKING BROKE

Maybe this is about one of the multiple realities or something.

Ug. Yeah, I encountered the “let’s crash randomly” bug that they couldn’t be bothered fixing.

The game was great up until about a third of the way through when I couldn’t be bothered fighting against this bug anymore. :(

I’m guessing a Vita remake with some extra content (and less performance issues) myself. From what I’ve ready of the ‘true’ ending there’s not much you can do to sequel the story.

Then again it could be just a flat PS4 port; a simple way to get rid of the performance suckage without effort. :P

The naming of the endings are, to a degree, trolling the player. They’re based on what happens with one of the primary antagonists, not necessarily what is true or not.
“True” is labeled as such because what had been foretold by them comes true and getting this ending you’re outright told you’re supposed to avert that outcome.
“Bad” is because the way things should have unfolded become completely derailed, as intended, but they’re made to live through and suffer for what they had done rather than receive the death they expected.

From what they’ve said, they can’t figure out what’s causing it. There is no apparent cause for it to happen. Anywhere, any time, doing anything, or even nothing, it happens. Some people encounter the issue so often they give up on the game, some manage to get through the entire thing without it happening.
Hard to fix things when there’s no indication at all on where it’s broken. Compare that game crashing bug to, say, Mugen Souls Z’s. That was a simple fix because it was consistent: Always in the Mugen Field, players who managed to avoid the bug never encountered the Slumbering bosses, those who did occasionally got as far as the music switching over to that particular boss type’s..

I can’t pretend to be a game developer or localizer, but if you’ve got a bug that straight up crashes the game you should be working night and day to fix it before launch, or failing that get a patch out as soon as possible. It really doesn’t matter how random it is, that kind of bug will kill a game and your goodwill as a team.

There’s a 1% chance it might be on PC too right?

Probably won’t happen, NIS is more or less the only relevant Jap publisher around that’s somehow still oblivious of the success the others have been having on Steam.

And it’s not like it would be difficult to port seeing how they’ll already have a PS4 version, so they’d essentially be skipping on another 100k to 200k guaranteed sales for what could be a cheap and quick port…

I wonder how they’re gonna censor it this time. And what contrived excuse they’ll come with.

Just hope it’s better than the shitty version we got lost time.

It really is inconsistent. Funny thing is that me and a friend played from the same disc on different PS3s. He never encountered the crash but I did quite a few times. He was using the old PS3 though while I was using the slim. That might have been a factor to consider. Then there’s if there were anything installed into the device. The problem may never have originated from the game by itself but may have been caused by the machine or what other things were installed in it.

But the overheating thing did seem consistent enough and was talked about often online. That at least should have been fixable I would think.

There are people that really like this game? This was actually the most disappointing game of 2014 for me. I had been following its through its 3 to 4 year development ever since the very first piece of art was released and I was really hyped for it. I thought the gameplay was really repetitive and boring, the graphics were horribly outdated, the story wasn’t that interesting, and even the characters were hit or miss for me. It just had so much potential, and it didn’t deliver for me at all besides its art and soundtrack. Regardless of whether this is a remake, port, or sequel, I really hope NIS listened to the criticisms given to the original game and fixes its problems. I’ll gladly give it a try if they do.
