While The Sims 4 is now free-to-play, EA also announced that the “next generation” of The Sims will be coming in the form of Project Rene.
Few details were given about this upcoming game as it is in the “very early stages of development”. The working title is meant to refer to “rebirth” for the series, which suggests a potential reboot of the long running series.
This new game could also be the long rumored and long awaited The Sims 5 that many have been waiting for years now as well.
What is known about this new project is that it will also include multiplayer, which would be a first for the mainline titles. The announcement also implied this new game will support cross play among support devices, though it did not state what these supported devices would be.
The team announced this as a part of their “Behind The Sims Summit Stream“, where some early concept of gameplay was shown off. As this is heavily pre-alpha footage, expect the game to be fairly different when it does eventually come out.
For now, it remains to be seen the totality of this upcoming title. But in the meantime if you are interested, then you can check out The Sims 4, which is now free-to-play across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam and Origin/EA App).
