The Silver Case is Being Remastered for PC, Set for Worldwide Release

the silver case 05-06-16-(8)

Grasshopper Manufacture has announced that The Silver Case will get its very first international release in the form of a remake for PC. The news was confirmed to Niche Gamer at this year’s PAX East.

The groundwork for this new remake was started back in 2008, when Grasshopper Manufacture announced a new version of the game for the Nintendo DS. The reasoning behind the game’s PC-only release was to ensure the largest-possible audience of potential players.

Playism was the initiator in getting the remake greenlit with game creator Goichi Suda. The new remake will be released on PC, via Steam and Playism’s own store. It will be joint-developed within Unity 5, and the team is working to retain as much of the original 2D artwork, with some of the 3D sequences being redone.

The Silver Case, released back in 1999 for the original PlayStation, was an adventure game that was described as being sometimes too difficult for native Japanese users. Playism is working with Grasshopper Manufacture to ensure the translation is as close to the source as possible.

Some puzzles and sequences have to be modified to make them playable in English, like the encryption sequence that relied on how Japanese is presented in computer systems.

When asked whether or not Grasshopper Manufacture would develop a game in the future similar in tone and style to The Silver Case, Suda-san said it would be “very exciting” to work on a game similar in style, but with a more modest team.

If The Silver Case does well in sales, Grasshopper Manufacture will consider a remake of the game’s mobile sequel, The Silver Case: Ward 25, and furthermore, if it sells really well – they’ll consider remaking Flower, Sun, and Rain.

Grasshopper Manufacture and Playism are targeting a fall 2016 release date for the game’s remake.

1999: Japan, the “24 Wards”.

A string of serial murders is terrorizing the nation.

All clues that the detectives have uncovered so far, point to one well known perpetrator, Kamui Uehara, the deranged criminal at the center of the infamous “The Silver Case” murders many years prior. But Kamui Uehara is no longer around…

With the string of mysteries, pointing to an impossible suspect, just what is really going on?

Combining elements of adventure games and visual novels to create a new and unique experience, The Silver Case invites the player to solve puzzles and experience the story in first-person perspective as a member of the Public Safety Department’s “Republic” Special Forces unit.

  • Unconventional and unexpected storylines
  • Characters with vivid personalities
  • Two scenarios:
    • Transmitter: the detectives hunt down the truth
    • Placebo: a freelance writer explores the story
  • Complete graphic enhancement
  • The unique Film Window System
  • In English for the first time ever

Film Window System

The Silver Case will be bringing back the Film Window, the system developed by SUDA51 to bring a more dramatic display of text & imagery to players of adventure games.

By displaying game graphics and text in moveable windows, the location of on-screen elements can be adjusted for dramatic purposes and keep the player interested.

Never played this or heard of it, so remaster or not, it piques my interest.

it’s part of a series of games sharing same thematic by Suda51, named Kill the Past.

Officially, The Silver Case,; Flower, Sun and Rain; and Killer 7 are the main trilogy of the series, but most Suda51 games share the same elements.

Shared elements on Kill the Past: Severed Heads, death and resurrection of characters, The Moon, assassins, a TV as information medium

This looks really cool, I am more interested in this than I am in Let it Die. Can never have enough detective game, now we need a localzation announcement for that other game by the CiNG staff.

That would be cool if it happened, but considering Killer7 is owned by Capcom and Shadows of the Damned is owned by EA, it’s not likely to happen.

None of those guys (including girl) really look Japanese do they? Looks interesting nonetheless. For some reason I’m getting slight Kara no Shōjo vibes from it. I’ll be keeping an eye out for it when it hits.

I love Suda51 works.. I really want a Sdatcher game made by Suda51 and Kojima and obviously another Snatcher.. Heck I even want another SD Snatcher lol..
I have Killer7 and I bought Killer is dead from the same developer because I really like Killer7 style and in my opinion it’s pretty similar..
Another game I bought for the similar style is Deadly Premonition by a developer with a similar name style.. (name+number lol)(Suda51=goichi<—his name/Swery=suehiro65<—his birth year?)(maybe they're friends)(Swery65 wrote the scenarios for Last Blade1/2 so that's a plus..)(I also have in wishlist D4 Dark dreams don't die)
I also have Sine More codeveloped by Grasshopper with the makers of Reunion, Imperium Galactica and Haegemonia, Digital Reality who also codeveloped with Grasshopper another very stylish game called Black Knight Sword.. I also need to obtain Contact..

There is always that one faggot that says “Hope it’ll come to PC some day.”

You’re never going to get it, so you should just kill yourself.

Always wanted to play this game, considering one of the characters did a brief cameo in Killer7.

It will come (approx 5 years). In one or another form like emulation. RPCS3 still in work in progress and it said that will support Vita also.

So Flower, Sun and Rain is a direct sequel?

Maybe that’s part of the reason why I’m so lost in that game.

Doe Japan have any famous serial killers? Can’t think of any.
