The cat’s out of the bag, as far as the next Mortal Kombat X character reveal is concerned. Featured above, Kung Lao, the shaolin monk with the badass hat, is confirmed to return in the upcoming fighter.
The news comes via a Finnish magazine Pelaaja (scans and info via Test Your Might), which shows off the new version of the monk, with an upgraded hat and a little bit of facial hair.
Game director Ed Boon says that Kung Lao is one of the most varied characters in the game, as he can switch between three different stances, each of which completely changing up how he moves and behaves.
First up, Tempest gives him more spinning power and the ability to float his hat in an orbit around his body, kind of like a ever-moving shield made of blades. Buzzsaw makes his signature hat even more deadly, and gives him superior control over its movements. Hat Trick is somewhat reminiscent of Soul Calibur V’s Viola and her orb abilities.
Finally, Boon talked up their plans for post launch updates, citing Injustice: Gods Among Us in saying they can patch Mortal Kombat X on a steady basis, squashing bugs and also making balance fixes as need be.
Mortal Kombat X is going to launch across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC on April 14th.
