Samurai Warriors Series Has Sold Over Eight Million Copies

The Samurai Warriors series has sold over eight million copies worldwide – news confirmed by publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Omega Force.

While the Samurai Warriors series has sold over eight million copies, the series originally began way back in 2004 on the original Xbox and the PlayStation 2, with the original Samurai Warriors.

Samurai Warriors was launched as a sister series set in the Sengoku (Warring States era of Japan), opposite to Koei Tecmo’s other long-running franchise, Dynasty Warriors, which is set in the Three Kingdoms era of China.

The original Samurai Warriors was released for both Xbox and PlayStation 2 back in 2004 and was later ported to the PlayStation Portable as Samurai Warriors: State of War. The PSP port of the game included additional multiplayer features. A direct sequel, Samurai Warriors 2, was released in 2006 for both the Xbox 260 and PlayStation 2, and then later ported to Windows PC in 2008.

The most recent game in the series, Samurai Warriors 5, has been available for Windows PC (via Steam), Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation since July of this year. A playable demo is also available – read more about that here in our previous report.
