The upcoming 3D film for The Prince of Tennis franchise will premiere on September 3rd of next year. The full film is titled Ryouma! Shinsei Gekijouban Tennis no Oji-sama.
The upcoming film will feature a completely original story that takes place in the time between The Prince of Tennis which ended in 2008 and The New Prince of Tennis which began shortly after in 2009.
The Prince of Tennis began as a manga series by creator Takeshi Konomi in 1999. An anime series followed in 2001 which lasted until 2005 with over 170 episodes.
The series follows the tennis prodigy Ryoma Echizen who returns to Japan after living abroad to study and play Tennis. He joins the tennis team at the Seishun Academy middle school and aims for the Nationals with his new friends.
Since then, The Prince of Tennis has received multiple spinoffs, video games, and animations including a second anime series in 2012.
The upcoming release date was announced on the official Twitter page for the film.

An official western release for the upcoming The Prince of Tennis film has yet to be announced. The series is licensed in the west by VIZ Media.
