Konami’s Symphony of the Night entry in the Castlevania series is considered by many an instant classic for the series, if not in gaming at large. There have been lots of games that have tried to recapture that gameplay or atmosphere, but few have gotten close.

Hazewalker is a dark fantasy action-adventure game from TheoryForm Games, an indie studio made up of some passionate indies. While the game is currently up on Steam Greenlight, they’ve also got a Kickstarter campaign that is going to launch in the coming week, on October 15th.

“I am very excited to take the next step in making Hazewalker a reality,” designer David Pierce said. “Steam is an amazing service that is growing and adding new features all the time, and we’re doing everything we can to make sure that our players will have access to our game on that platform. Hazewalker is also a great fit for Steam’s Big Picture Mode.”

Featured above, you can view the game’s Steam Greenlight trailer, which shows off some environments, combat, and of course – that all-to-familiar atmosphere that seems evident in the game’s title as well. The goal of the game is to investigate the origin of an ancient curse known as the Haze. Playing as Falken, you’ll be able to engage various NPCs, find and craft equipment and weapons, read in game books, and more.
