If you never played General Chaos, it was an original game developed by Brian Colin and crew for the Sega Genesis way back in 1994. Brian is the head of Game Refuge Inc, a company known for both licensed games and original titles. General Chaos is easily their most notable game.
The game featured multiple characters that all had their own strengths and weaknesses and you duked it out in an arena of sorts. Sound strikingly similar to a certain genre that is popular today?
General Chaos has been called the original multiplayer battle arena game, a concept that DOTA and League of Legends have taken and made crazy popular games with.
I have fond memories of playing General Chaos with friends and family back in the day, so naturally seeing the game reimagined is hitting me right in the childhood.
Here are the official gameplay enhancements that are coming with General Chaos II:
- Touchpad & mouse controls
- Seperate viewports / dynamic cameras
- New characters / weapon types
- New squads / new movement options
- Customizable standing orders / battle cries
- Environmental hazards / 3D terrain
- Vehicles / villagers / rebel resistance
- Multiplayer multiverse / plunder based economy
- Louder, funnier and extremely painful close combat options.
General Chaos II: Sons of Chaos is a direct sequel to the Genesis original, the key thing they’re trying to do here is reimagine the game for current generations of gamers and platforms.
They have lots of stretch goals including a port to current gen consoles so if you want to see this happen, and you’re a fan of the original like me, you can pledge to their kickstarter here.
