January 6, 2016 at 1:03 pmAbso-fucking-lutely ridiculous, and that’s before even getting into the 699 euro price over here.
Looks like they’re gonna milk everything they can out of their current mindshare monopoly and lack of early competitors.

January 6, 2016 at 1:07 pmIf PSVR can be under 400$, that will be a major difference in prices, which may force Facebook to be a bit more competitive.

January 6, 2016 at 1:11 pm$600 for a piece of hardware with little support at this point and a price range that makes getting a “next-gen console” seem more reasonable… no thanks.

January 6, 2016 at 1:26 pmI’m not sure those two are entirely comparable in value offered, but I’m sure PSVR and HTC Vive will force OR to come down in price… but it might very well take a while: as far as the mainstream audience is concerned right now, Oculus Rift is VR.

January 6, 2016 at 2:28 pmFACEBOOK OWN THIS!
JUST A REMINDER THAT FACEBOOK OWNS OCULUS RIFT!
~Facebook forces Instagram users to allow it to sell their uploaded photos
http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2012/dec/18/facebook-instagram-sell-uploaded-photos
“Under Facebook’s current terms (which can change at anytime), by posting
your pictures and videos, you grant Facebook “a non-exclusive,
transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use any
[IP] content that you post on or in connection with Facebook (“IP
License”). This IP License ends when you delete your IP content or your
account unless your content has been shared with others, and they have
not deleted it. Beware of the words “transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide license.” This means that Facebook can license your content to others for free without
obtaining any other approval from you! You should be aware that once
your photos or videos are shared on Facebook, it could be impossible to
delete them from Facebook, even if you delete the content or cancel your
account (the content still remains on Facebook servers and they can
keep backups)! So, although you may be able to withdraw your consent to the use of photos on Facebook, you should also keep in mind that if you share your photos and videos with Facebook applications, those applications may have their own terms
and conditions of how they use your creation! You should read the fine
print to make sure you are not agreeing to something that you don’t
want to have happen.”

January 6, 2016 at 2:44 pmEven if someone else just steals your shit and posts it on facebook while taking the credit for it, facebook will just ignore you when you ask them to take it down. Ethan from H3H3 has a bunch of videos posted about it, they’re complete scumbags. Can’t wait to see what the Vive is like. If they come out even 100 dollars less, it’s going to be a PS4/Xbone situation.

January 6, 2016 at 2:59 pmThe price does not include the touch which wont be coming out till the end of the year or next year, nor does it include tax and shipping. Not getting it, going for the vive myself which is better in every way.

January 6, 2016 at 8:04 pmYup. You would need a beast to get the best out of this anyway no matter the price. My 280x is just below the min (but be honest, who goes for the min?)

January 6, 2016 at 8:12 pmI’ve got a GTX 780 that I bought summer of 2013 I think, wanted something to last me a while and it’s done well so far. Kinda think it’ll meet it’s match here though, that’s a lot of pixels to push, and fast at that.
Just one more reason to wait, the devices themselves will be cheaper and better supported, and there will be new generations of GPUs. The longer you wait the better bang for your buck you’ll get.

Yeah, there’s a good $700 in hardware right there if you don’t already have it, and that’s only 2/8 components.

January 7, 2016 at 1:46 amI’m even more not sold on VR.
Phelan
January 7, 2016 at 2:47 amThe problem with VR devices is that people expected it to be much cheaper…
But look HMZ-T3W from SONY at the launch cost 1300 USD. HMZ-T1 around 800 USD. And those two didn’t even have additional processing power included like Oculus or PS VR (which frankly speaking could be called HMZ-T4)
That’s more or less how much stuff like that cost. It can’t be much cheaper. It would be fine… if only there were games for it. One EVE is not enough to make me convinced…

January 7, 2016 at 1:55 pmI have a 3d monitor, and the requirements to run standard PC games in stereoscopic 3d is immense, basically double the usual framerate requirements. Even with a stout, overclocked gaming rig that chews up most anything I throw at it, I can only barely run games like Skyrim in Nvidia 3d. Forget about anything made in the last couple of years, it just can’t handle it.

Zombie_Barioth
January 7, 2016 at 8:24 pmNot surprising since you’re basically rendering everything twice for 3D. For the rift they want 90FPS on top of it, so we’re effectively looking at 1200P/180FPS gaming.
The recommendation was a 970, and that’s with games like Minecraft in mind. I know this thing is for enthusiasts, but even most enthusiasts will have trouble running anything unless its old or indie.

January 11, 2016 at 11:35 amOne the one hand, it’s new tech of course it’s going to be overly expensive. Personally I’m glad I’ve never had any interest in this thing.
On the other hand, it was a bullshit move for them to say on multiple occasions it would be in the 300-350 range. 600 is not in the ballpark of 350 you fucks.
I’d sooner get a new(current) gen console and some games or put that toward a gaming PC before this.
