23 years later, the Nintendo 64 is coming back to the Electronic Entertainment Expo, after its reveal back in 1996. The console is being re-released by Hyperkin – as the Ultra Retron.

The new console arrives complete with a cartridge slot, an HDMI output for modern TVs, and controller ports for your original N64 pads – or the new Hyperkin reproductions.

While details are scant, Hyperkin project manager Andrew Steel posted the above teaser video of the hardware in action, playing a mix of classic Nintendo 64 titles like Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye, Super Smash Bros., The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Super Mario 64.

It remains to be seen if this packs actual hardware, or like previous Retron consoles – is simply an emulator that dumps the game ROM for you to play.

Nintendo 64 configurations for HDMI aren’t exactly cheap, so this could be a welcome release for fans wanting a way to play Nintendo 64 games on their modern TVs without the game looking awful.
