The Mortuary Assistant movie announced

Horror game The Mortuary Assistant is getting a film adaptation, bringing the spooky demon and bodies-filled story to the big screen.

The new The Mortuary Assistant film is being produced by Epic Films with Willa Holland (Arrow) to star as protagonist Rebecca Owens, a recent mortuary science graduated who begins work at the River Fields Mortuary.

Owens’ job seems pretty normal at first – work involves preparing the dead for burial, completing mundane paperwork, and so on – though things get dark when she begins working the night shift.

The new film is being reported as a “new chapter” in the story that expands on the original game, by Darkstone Digital, with its demonic threats and occultic lore.

Paul Sparks (House of Cards) plays the mortician boss of Owens, Raymond Delver, who at first glance seems to be a mentor but may be a potential threat.

The new horror film has a screenplay adapted by Tracee Beebe and original creator of the game Brian Clarke, with Jeremiah Kipp directing the new adaptation.

“Seeing the mortuary assistant evolve over the years from a small prototype to a full feature film is beyond anything I could have imagined as a solo developer,” Clarke said. “Jeremiah Kipp is an insanely skilled director, and it has been one of the highlights of my life working with him. Jeremiah and the entire team at Epic Pictures have done an amazing job capturing the spirit of the game while adding their own unique cinematic flair. It is an honor to see Willa and Paul bring these characters to life along with the rest of the film crew. I feel extremely fortunate and can’t wait for fans to see The Mortuary Assistant expand into new territory.”

Kipp said that both he and Clarke “respond to character-driven storytelling within a disturbing horror space. Because his influences have been largely cinematic, the whole process has organically felt like an expansion of his unique gameplay. We’ve captured the atmosphere of singular dread that players responded to so powerfully – this movie will be scary as hell.”

The Mortuary Assistant was originally released for Windows PC (via Steam) back in 2022 and later came to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, PS4, and PS5.
