In their Nintendo Direct Broadcast today, Nintendo has confirmed that a big update to the handheld is coming next month.

This new system software update will bring the Miiverse to the 3DS, which previously was only available on the Wii U. Accessing the Miiverse will let you share your experience with a game, your thoughts, opinions, tips and so on.

The update will also bring on the Nintendo Network ID system, which goes hand in hand with the Miiverse. If you already have one (and a Wii U), you can simply log in with your existing ID. If you only own a 3DS, you can just create a new Nintendo Network ID.

One last thing of note – your eShop balance between 3DS and Wii U will be linked now, meaning you can use credit towards purchases on both devices.
