The Metal Gear Timeline Website Might Refresh You on the Series’ Insane Storyline

The Metal Gear series hasn’t been known for having exactly a coherent storyline. Much like the military espionage it tries to emulate and expand upon, some fans have fallen behind in terms of knowing exactly what is going on, like who The Patriots are, what The Boss did to Naked Snake, and so on.

Now, game developer and Metal Gear superfan Alex Camilleri, has released the Metal Gear Timeline, a website he’s been working on for the past few months. The goal of the website is to intelligently put all of the events from the series into chronological order. (Editor’s Note: There are SPOILERS amok in the timeline. Browse with caution)

According to Camilleri, he got the idea from Reddit user AudioRejectz, who made an attempt to organize all of the major events from the series into a similar fashion. Camilleri saw this, and decided to expand upon it by providing a full timeline of events, while making it easier to browse and read (although it needs some proofreading).

This is a great resource to get those fans both new and old caught up prior to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain‘s release, which launches across PC, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on September 1st.

Can we also get a timeline on all the atrocities Konami has done to their game franchises?

I could have sworn Metal Gear Rising was canon to the series, might be wrong though.

Wait. I thought PO wasn’t canon.

As far as I know, it’s canon unless another game contradicts a fact said on that game, so basically other games have the priority over it.

    Here’s my own summary:
-Back story: After World War I countries form a cache of mad dough.
-MGS3: People die and lie trying to get the mad dough, Big Boss kills everyone, gets pissed that he killed everyone and Ocelot gets a mancrush on him.
-PO: Big Boss goes on a quest for mad dough.
-Peace Walker: Big Boss goes on a quest for mad dough.
-Ground Zeroes: Big Boss goes to visit the setting of his favorite movie Harold and Kumar go to Guantanamo. Loses mad dough.
-Phantom Pain: Big Boss goes on a quest for mad dough and revenge.
-Metal Gear: Solid Snake goes to stop Big Boss’s plan of world domination.
-Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake: Kojima gets angry at Snake’s revenge and makes another game to make that other game non canon.
-Metal Gear Solid: Liquid Snake, who is Solid Snake’s brother tries to cramp Big Boss’s plans and style. Solid Snake stops that shit.
-Metal Gear Solid (Game boy): Solid Snake goes to punch some terrorists.
-Metal Gear Solid 2: An AI wants to create Reddit, Solid Snake (and Raiden) stop the site from being created.
-Metal Gear Rising (Original): Cyborg Raiden rescues a little girl.
-Metal Gear Solid 4: Snake is now old and goes to kill old people and an AI.
-Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance: Kojima is angry at the existence of Dark Souls as a meme game, so he makes a game with more memes. Cyborg Raiden stops a USA Senator from trying to win the polls.
-Metal Gear Acid: It was a pretty decent title. Solid Snake has amnesia and imagines a non canon world.
-Metal Gear Acid 2: Solid Snake beats Wiseman so he can get the extra boss battle in Baten Kaitos: Origins.

-Metal Gear Solid 6: Fuck off, Konami!

Still too convoluted for me. I’ll probably just stew in the sad realization that The Boss sacrificed herself for the good of the country.

Playing the games seems enough to me. Played them all, the story is not “convulted” nor anything. It just more complex than your average good vs bad guys regular FPS story.

I like to consider it, “Half.” Half of it is canon.

Canon or not, it’s the latest in the timeline right now so, in a way, it’s irrelevant
