I remember about 4 years ago a friend of mine showed me a package of DLC for Train Simulator that was “on sale” during a Steam event for about $300USD, and I promptly shot tea out of my nose in uncontrollable laughter. Since then, the Simulator craze has encompassed even more boring work-related past times such as Farming, trucking and logging simulators to name but a few. As serious as they try to be, going to any of the associated forums for these games usually exposes you to a bunch of troll posts laughing at the sim’s existence, if not the usual “Why do people play this” topics.
This odd trend was lampooned by the recently released Goat Simulator, and is now being one-upped the too-ludicrous-to-be-true subject of this article, the long overdue Rock Simulator.
As for gameplay, it’s hard to say if it’s going to be anything other than a desktop image of a rock, since, well….you’re a rock. Nonetheless, the author seems adamant about releasing it and posted the following to the game’s Greenlight page:
For a long time, there has been one game missing from the market, a genuine rock simulator. I am here for you today to introduce you to Rock Simulator 2014. This simulator is a rock enthusiasts dream. You can watch beautiful rocks in any location in the world. From grass plains to salt flats, there are dozens of hand designed BEAUTIFUL environments.
Recently, the game rocketed to #9 on Steam Greenlight, which probably speaks more about Greenlight than it does the game.
