The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power debut trailer

As promised, Amazon premiered their new The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power debut trailer during Super Bowl LVI this weekend.

After years of planning and months of teasing, we’ve finally gotten our first look at Amazon’s expensive TV series adaptation of Middle-earth’s Second Age.

Here’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power debut trailer:

As covered in our previous report on the debut in-costume and on-set photos showing off the main cast, there are a number of newcomers in the Amazon series, as well as some returning characters (yet played by new actors) like Galadriel and Elrond.

The younger Galadriel played by Morfydd Clark is shown climbing the side of a mountain, newly invented elven character Arondir played by Ismael Cruz Cordova is hunting foes in the night with his bow, Prince Durin IV played by Owain Arthur is looking grim inside some underground cave, and other new character dwarven princess Disa played by Sophia Nomvete is.. singing?

As covered in our other related report, the gaming and film rights for both The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit are now up for sale, suggesting original rights holder Zaentz Co. is bidding for Amazon to buy the rights so they can continue their expensive yet currently-short TV series (it’s only 8 episodes, as per the original rights loophole).

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set to premiere exclusively via Amazon Prime Video on September 2nd, 2022.
