Filming is reportedly beginning in July 2021 for the previously announced The Last of Us TV show, which HBO is producing alongside Sony, developer Naughty Dog, and Word Games.
The news comes (via CBC Canada) from the Premier of Alberta, Canada, who commented on the production of The Last of Us TV show on a Facebook livestream. The premier stated filming will begin in July 2021 and run until June 2022. The story will focus on the video games series, with the first game focusing on protagonist Joel and Ellie in a zombie apocalypse.
Furthermore, the Premier said The Last of Us will be “the largest ever, I believe, film or television production in Canadian history. He also said Alberta is “on track for ‘a record year in film’ with new privately funded studios in the process of being built to meet demand.”
The TV show will star Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie, with Pedro Pascal mostly gaining recent fame due to his starring role in the Star Wars spin-off series The Mandalorian, while Bella Ramsey got fame in HBO’s Game of Thrones adaptation as Lyanna Mormont.
As mentioned in our previous report, Neil Druckmann, the creator and director of The Last of Us game series, will be an executive producer and writer for the TV series adaption alongside executive producers Craig Mazin (creator of Chernobyl) and Carolyn Strauss (Game of Thrones executive producer), along with Evan Wells (president of Naughty Dog), and more.
The Last Of Us Part II is currently available for PlayStation 4. In case you missed it, you can find our thorough review for the game here (we can’t really recommend it – read our review first!).
