SNK Corporation have announced the release date of The King of Fighters XV, along with rollback netcode and the return of classic characters.
The King of Fighters XV launches February 17th, 2022 on Windows PC (via the Epic Games Store, and Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
The new trailer showcases many of the characters, and how there will be 39 in total. Along with the previously announced 30, the new trailer confirms the return of K’, Ash Crimson, and Heidern. Several of these characters were also dead within the series continuity, but have returned.
K’ is an arrogant and rude, but backs up his attitude with fiery blows, and overwhelming violence. Ash Crimson is another fire-wielding fighter, with a more flamboyant and calm personality that masks his cunning. Finally, Heidern is an emotionally cold assassin who can create slashing blows with his hands, and even absorb life energy.
The game’s story mode is seems to include two additional characters; a dark skinned woman with a mystical design, and a teen girl with street clothes and wielding floating hands. The story will see the fate of the world in the balance.
Mechanics were also briefly mentioned; with Shatter Strike to counter foes and crumple them, Max Mode to unleash powerful attacks, Max Mode Quick to cancel attacks and extend combos, Rush combos through simple inputs, multiple special moves, and more.
Rollback netcode will also be included. Among the various online and training modes, the gallery will also include an animated short by anime director Masami Obari (Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture).
Finally, the deluxe edition will come with a DLC pass for six additional characters (each forming their own three-person team), and early access for three days starting February 14th. Early purchase bonuses include a Garou: Mark of the Wolves costume for Terry. Digital only purchases will have Leona’s The King of Fighters ’96 costume.
