We’ve known about The King of Fighters XIV for awhile and have been reporting on it as only a PlayStation 4 game, however, the game’s most recent press release had a little nugget of information hid within.
SNK Playmore said in the press release that the game “will be available exclusively on PlayStation 4 in 2016.”
This may not be considered news to some, however, it’s certainly interesting considering the majority of fighters tend to be on as many home consoles as possible (Except special cases like Street Fighter V).
It’s also worth mentioning that with Andy Bogard confirmed as a playable character yesterday, his reveal trailer depicted what seems to be a whopping 48 character slots – so we’ve got a bit to go before we get the entire roster confirmed.
If you’re at this year’s PlayStation Experience, The King of Fighters XIV will be playable on the showfloor.

November 25, 2015 at 1:58 pmMan, I like the direction PS4 is going. Between the exclusives they have and some of the English language Asian releases coming, this is shaping up to be a great game library. Guilty Gear Xrd, SF5, and now KOF all exclusive to Sony? Yes please.

November 25, 2015 at 2:13 pmNow we know why Sony has been pushing it so hard. >_>
Yeah, I have hopes for this game to be good even if it might not end up being presentable, but I have a lot of other KOF games to play so I can start the series. KOF13 looks pretty rad.

November 25, 2015 at 2:29 pmThis may be a push from Sony to fully attract the FGC. I don’t know why they decided to go with the 3D style, but I’ll need to try the game before I judge it.

November 25, 2015 at 2:52 pmYou’d think just getting SFV would be enough as far as consoles go.

November 25, 2015 at 3:01 pmSee those gorgeous KOFXIII sprites? Know how long it took to make each of them?
6 months.
6 damn months. Not only that, sprites are expensive as all hell to make and they take hell of a lot of effort even though they may not necessarily look all that good. 3D models can be much more practical and less time consuming, and quite frankly, SNK can’t afford to spend too much money…. Not like they have any, but hey.

November 25, 2015 at 3:06 pm“Exclusively on PS4 in 2016” sounds like the same as we’ve heard with other timed exclusives (mostly from Square), although there’s not really a precedent for it with this particular publisher yet either.
Oh well, never cared much for this series and I’m getting SFV and Killer Instinct on top of having the majestic Rivals of Aether, so they can keep it.

November 25, 2015 at 3:43 pmIll give the game a chance once it releases but Sony should give this same push to Guilty Gear Xrd.The game plays great and looks gorgeous and it has some of the most beautiful animation i’ve seen in a fighter yet they don’t talk about it -.-

November 25, 2015 at 5:33 pmSF5 is on PC and I think we got news about Guilty Gear Xrd coming to PC as well.

November 25, 2015 at 7:03 pmI’m talking among consoles, clearly.

November 25, 2015 at 7:13 pmI understand it’s news, but why would someone get all excited about exclusives unless you’re financially tied to one of the console makers?
Seems so childish to get all emotionally excited over you having access to a game others do not.

November 25, 2015 at 7:15 pm“in 2016” is key wording, and was the same wording used on Dragon Quest Heroes and we now know that is coming to Steam very soon.

November 25, 2015 at 8:54 pmThis is the reason we haven’t gotten a new KOF game in 6 years.
I’m not happy with the 3D transition either (would’ve preferred GGXrd style but whatever), but I’m just happy about the fact that they’re finally coming back.

November 25, 2015 at 10:44 pmNot too shocking.
PS is its main platform, Xbone sales are low, the franchise hasn’t caught up on PC yet, the WiiU is a joke.
It still looks terrible by the way.

November 29, 2015 at 4:25 amIt’s a Japanese development issue. As a dev over there way make a game for a consol that isn’t selling over there. Especially when your not a big enough studio. It’s why your seeing all these JRPGs going PS4 exclusive.

November 30, 2015 at 2:07 pmThat’s my guess as well; most of these smaller games are exclusive because they can’t do or know any better for the time being.
