Cult classic movie The Fall 4K remaster finally announced by Mubi

The Fall 4K

Boutique streaming platform Mubi has announced they’ve acquired the distribution rights for cult classic 2006 film The Fall, and will exclusively stream the film later this year.

Originally filmed over four years in 20 different locations around the world by director and co-writer Tarsem Singh, The Fall stars a young Lee Pace as a former stuntman in roaring 20s Los Angeles that regales a recovering girl with fantastical stories of heroism and distant lands.

The film got mixed reviews and didn’t perform well at the box office but its spectacular visuals got it praise, making it a standard for demo material to showcase high-definition televisions and home theater.

Pace starred in the film alongside Catinca Untaru and Justine Waddell, and the film was originally presented by David Fincher and Spike Jonze, with a script co-written by Dan Gilroy and Nico Soultanakis.

Unfortunately, a very limited home release leading to outrageous reseller prices and a nonexistent digital release have made the film very hard to find, with original director Tarsem even trying to find new distribution himself.

Here’s an old trailer for the film:

Director Tarsem Singh, known mononymously as Tarsem, is more known for his other films like the 2000 thriller The Cell starring Jennifer Lopez and 2011 action-adventure film The Immortals, starring Henry Cavill. Tarsem is also known for his music videos like the iconic video for REM’s “Losing My Religion.”

Details are scant on the 4K restoration for The Fall, however it will premiere at the Locarno Film Festival from August 7th through the 17th, where it will play on the Piazza Grande and in its glorious new 4K restoration.

After the film’s re-debut in Italy it will stream exclusively via Mubi, on September 27th (via Deadline) for the US, the UK, Canada, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Latin America, Benelux, Turkey, and Indie. The Match Factory will handle distribution for the rest of the world though it remains unclear if a physical home release is planned – stay tuned.
