The Dreamcast Finally Gets a Hard Drive Add-on

…only it’s being done by a modder.

No system has received as much after-death support and love as the Dreamcast, or so it seems anyway. With several impressive indie games being released for it over the years as well as humorous campaigns to get Sega to create a new one, the little white box continues to chug along. Adding to the list today is the above-linked hardware mod that adds a fully functioning hard drive to the system with the ability to boot GDI rips off of it with only minor problems.

As those who run nullDC might tell you, some games simply won’t work. According to the creators, both Crazy Taxi (A fav of mine) and Soul Calibur refuse to work at all, while some others have minor problems that get in the way of fully enjoying them. Nonetheless, it’s an impressive little mod that reminds you of how far ahead of the curve the Dreamcast was.

Eating dinner in front of my Dreamcast keyboard while idling in the Phantasy Star Online lobby is where I had some of my best online discussions. Good times.
