Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn producer and director, Naoki Yoshida, confirmed a lot of information about the game during this weekend’s London Fan Festival, for the game’s recently confirmed Heavensward expansion.
First up is the new job class, the Dark Knight. While this is no Batman, Yoshi-P did tease his reveal by wearing a Batman t-shirt. The Dark Knight is in fact a tank class, meaning that it will not be a high DPS party member like in previous Final Fantasy games.
The Dark Knight also won’t require that you invest in base classes, allowing you to hop into trying it out right from the get-go. The presentation mentioned the Dark Knight utilizing powerful weapons, as well as the power of darkness itself. Yoshida-san also teased a new gunner class, which is supposedly going to be revealed at the Tokyo Fan Festival, happening next month.
New mounts were teased, some of which included the new flying mounts—like a black chocobo that will also be able to take flight. There are reportedly six flying mounts in development for the game, with a seventh one in tow that will depend on fan input. Airships are another big part of the Heavensward expansion. You’ll be able to command a single-person airship, or a larger one meant for an entire group.
A new beast tribe dubbed the Vanu Vanu will be coming with patch 3.0, alongside Bismarck, the hot new primal. There will also be another group of beast tribes, the Gnath, which are getting their own primal, called Ravana.
Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward is coming some time next Spring.
