Some fans noticed a change in the subtitles for the Spring 2023 series The Dangers of My Heart which removed references to “mansplaining”.

Previously, a subtitled line in the series used the term to express the protagonist’s awkward explanation of fashion. Allegedly, the original Japanese calls his explanation “mysterious fashion”, reflecting his own awkwardness with discussing the topic.

Fans were quick to call out the translation of “mansplaining” as another example of western localizers using potentially dated terminology and slang.
