DotEmu, a French developer and publisher that specializes in modern releases of retro games, has announced that the Double Dragon Trilogy will finally be available on Windows PC. You’ll be able to buy the trilogy through GOG, Steam, and Amazon from January 15. The modern re-imagining, Double Dragon Neon, is already on Steam.
The original game by Technou Japan was an arcade mainstay after it hit halls in 1987, and the series has been on pretty much every conceivable platform since. DotEmu have even ported it to iOS and Android mobile devices. However, the games have never officially been on PC until now.
According to the developers, the trilogy will have the following features:
- Two game modes: “Arcade” (play the game from beginning to end for a high score) and “Story” (unlock new stages and achievements while playing through the game)
- Customizable controls (keyboard & controller)
- Three difficulty levels: “easy” (easier than the original), “original” (similar to the arcade version) and “expert” (a real challenge!)
- Choose between the original 8-bit soundtrack and a brand-new remastered one!
- Choose between the original graphics or video filter
- Local or online multiplayer
The series starts when Billy and Jimmy, two martial arts experts and brothers, must rescue Billy’s girlfriend, Marian, from kidnappers. It has the sort of gleeful machismo and bombast only an ’80s arcade game could have spawned.
The Double Dragon Trilogy compilation includes all three installments of the original series: Double Dragon, Double Dragon 2: The Revenge, and Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone.
