The original Donkey Kong, one of Nintendo’s first video games, is now available for the Nintendo Switch.
First released back in 1981, the new Arcade Archives (via publisher Hamster) is the first-ever release of the complete, arcade version of the classic game outside of arcades. The game is now available for $7.99 – news confirmed during this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo.
Alongside the new release is the confirmation that Sky Skipper will be released for Switch via Arcade Archives sometime next month.
Here’s a rundown on the game:
Save Lady from her kidnapper Donkey Kong!
Donkey Kong is an action game released in 1981 by Nintendo. Avoid a variety of obstacles while heading through a construction site to make it to the top and rescue Lady. Use the hammer to destroy the barrels and fire coming towards you to earn more points. * This version contains both the early and later versions as well as the international version.
The Arcade Archives series has faithfully reproduced many classic Arcade masterpieces.
Players can change various game settings such as game difficulty, and also reproduce the atmosphere of arcade display settings at that time. Players can also compete against each other from all over the world with their high scores.
Please enjoy the masterpiece that built a generation for video games.
