The upcoming DVD and Blu-Ray release of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Scarlet Bond will release in Japan this July.
This particular home media release will include English subtitles, allowing fans to directly support the creators of the series. However it’s worth remembering that DVDs and Blu-Rays are still region-locked on many devices.
Originally beginning in 2013 as a novel series (before transitioning to a Light Novel format), That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (shortened to TenSura by fans) follows Rimuru Tempest, a Japanese man who got reincarnated as a slime.
After consuming the weakened Storm Dragon Veldora he attained incredible power which he uses to create a small kingdom in a monster-riddled forest.
The new film features a completely original plot that hasn’t been seen in the anime or manga. But the story is written by “Fuse,” the author of the original story, so this isn’t some non-canon spinoff.
Studio 8bit is behind the project and is the original studio who works on the That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime anime series.
In this story, the small kingdom of Raja comes to blows with Rimuru’s Tempest nation. They also meet a survivor of the ogre clan who appears to be the lost brother of Benimaru, one of Rimuru’s strongest warriors.
An official English DVD/Blu-Ray release has yet to be announced.
