Terrifier fandom outraged after director says he employs liberals and conservatives

Terrifier

The Terrifier fandom is in an uproar after creator/director Damien Leone made a public statement declaring that he employs Trump voters as well as leftists to work on the Terrifier films.

For context, it all started when the actor of series’ villain Art the clown, David Howard Thornton, started posted very critical statements against newly re-elected President Trump.

Thornton posted on social media platform Threads, saying “I grew up around Germans that stayed silent. I learned from them what happens when one stays silent. That is why I continue to refuse to stay silent.”

Some people misunderstanding the Threads posting system have also claimed David himself said he didn’t want Trump voters watching his movies, but a look at the avatars beside each post show that a woman wearing a black tank top is the one who made that statement, not David Thornton. David merely liked the post.

Regardless, the director himself weighed in, not on Threads but on social media platform X, saying, “Since Terrifier 1, our cast and crew has and still consists of both republicans and democrats and anyone is welcome to be a part of it regardless of their political affiliations as long as they’re a decent human being.

“If this doesn’t sit well with any fans or cast/crew members that is your right and I respect it. You don’t have to buy a ticket and you don’t have to work on these films. Thank you and I recommend you don’t let toxic rhetoric on either side of the political spectrum deter you from being a Terrifier fan.”

The director’s comment were met with immediate backlash, causing him to backtrack somewhat.

All of the top replies are from leftist Terrifier fans expressing their disappointment with Damien for his words. Tattoo artist Emily Jayne accused Damien of not having the balls to support his cast members, while others accused the director of supporting homophobia.

In the end, Damien declared that he actually agreed with actor David Thornton on his criticism of Trump, declaring separately that homophobes were not welcome in the Terrifier fandom, and claimed he had merely been misunderstood when it seemed as if he was calling out his cast.

The latest in their horror-slasher franchise, Terrifier 3, premiered in theaters back in October. Get our full review for Terrifier 3!
