We’ve learned that FuRyu is developing a 3DS game based on the Terra Formars manga and anime.
The news was confirmed in the latest issue of Young Jump magazine (via Anime News Network), and the official (translated) name for the game is Terra Formars: Fierce Battle on the Crimson Planet, or Terra Formars: Akaki Hoshi no Gekitō in Japanese.
In Terra Formars: Fierce Battle on the Crimson Planet, players control Shokichi, one of the main characters sent to Mars on the BUGS 2 expedition. Players will naturally be fighting the Terraformars themselves, which are mutated humanoid-cockroach type creatures.
If you haven’t been following the manga or the anime (currently streaming via Crunchyroll), humans decided to colonize Mars, and to do so they sent cockroaches and mold to the Martian surface to help warm up the planet and establish an atmosphere.
Fast forward to the year 2577, humans venture to the red planet to find the Terra Formars, mutated behemoths that wipe out the maiden expedition – but not before they send a warning message back to Earth. Now, the BUGS 2 crew is sent to help fight and wipe out the bug menace.
Terra Formars: Fierce Battle on the Crimson Planet is coming sometime next spring in Japan, for 5,980 yen.
For my fellow Heinlein fans out there: The only good bug is a dead bug.
