Chinese giant Tencent and Sony Interactive Entertainment have acquired a 30% stake in developer FromSoftware, the companies announced this morning.
To be clear, the newly issued shares were sold to both Tencent Holdings subsidiary Sixjoy Hong Kong and Sony’s gaming subsidiary Sony Interactive Entertainment.
This is the second major investment Tencent has made into Kadokawa Corporation, FromSoftware’s parent company, as they previously acquired a 6.8% stake in Kadokawa proper.
With the new issuing of shares, Sixjoy Hong Kong will own 16.25% of the Elden Ring developer’s shares and Sony Interactive Entertainment will own 14.09% of shares. Kadokawa Corporation naturally remains the largest shareholder with 69.66% of shares.
