Chinese publisher Tencent has reportedly cancelled an unannounced NieR spinoff game.
The new report (via Reuters) claims development on the new NieR spinoff game was stopped back in December of last year, after the company failed to figure out a monetization plan for the title.
Yes – this means the unannounced NieR spinoff game was for smartphones and was going to use some kind of monetization system, and might have been free-to-play, at least to start.
The source claims the NieR spinoff game was cancelled due to a number of key issues: royalty fees, platform fees, and overall high development costs. The game was reportedly in development for nearly two years.
The latest release in the NieR series was the Switch port for Nier: Automata, which got subtitled The End of Yorha Edition, back in 2022.
