Telltale Games Lays Off Roughly 25% of Staff Amidst Restructuring

Telltale Games, the American game developer known for popularizing western-styled visual novel adaptations of various media franchises, has announced they’ve laid off a large portion of their staff in a major restructuring of the company.

The company announced they’re laying off roughly 25% of their workforce, which affects 90 employees.

Telltale noted the decision to lay off staff is with the hopes of making them “more competitive as a developer and publisher of groundbreaking story-driven gaming experiences with an emphasis on high quality in the years ahead.”

Telltale Games CEO Pete Hawley elaborated the decision a bit:

“Our industry has shifted in tremendous ways over the past few years. The realities of the environment we face moving forward demand we evolve, as well, reorienting our organization with a focus on delivering fewer, better games with a smaller team.”

The company was keen to note that the layoffs are “not expected to impact the release of any of the company’s previously announced projects.”

Current titles being developed at Telltale include Guardians of the GalaxyMinecraft: Story Mode, and the fourth Walking Dead game.
