Tecmo Bowl Used In Predicting Outcome Of Super Bowl 50

If you’re a football fan, or just someone that appreciates retro games, you may be interested in knowing that next Sunday’s Super Bowl 50 has had its results predicted by way of a Tecmo Super Bowl simulation.

Those who are community members of TecmoBow.org are probably familiar with the ROM hack used, as the simulation was made possible thanks to the updated rosters that their community publishes every fall. These rosters, which are made to be as authentic as the limits of an 8-bit Nintendo ROM will allow, produce some fairly accurate results during the regular season, as my own heavy use over the years has verified.

The video predicts a score of 7-17, with Cam Newton’s Carolina Panthers coming out on top thanks to a couple key turn-overs. The Broncos lone touchdown came by way of a 4 yard Ronnie Hillman run through the middle. Apparently, even Tecmo Super Bowl knows Peyton Manning isn’t the same quarterback he was just a year ago.

One upside to watching this version of the Super Bowl is that Tecmo’s halftime show, which has Mighty Bomb Jack flying around the screen, is probably more entertaining than seeing Coldplay perform in this year’s actual halftime show.
