Techland Working on Two New Games, One is an Open-World Fantasy with RPG Elements

Dying Light studio Techland has announced (via Eurogamer) two new games they have currently baking in the oven.

The news comes from an interview with studio CEO Paweł Marchewka at the Digital Dragons conference. While one of the new games will be an entirely new IP developed in their Warsaw studio, it will be an open-world fantasy title, and it even has some RPG elements.

Marchewka said it will be “maybe in a slightly bigger sense than Dying Light … [but] it’s RPG elements rather than RPG game,” and it will have both a single-player campaign, as well as cooperative multiplayer, just like what Techland has done previously.

The other new title will be developed in their Wrocław studio and it hasn’t even been named or detailed – Marchewka wasn’t keen on sharing details at the time. However, it’s worth mentioning their Wrocław is the studio is the one that put out Dying Light, so it’s safe to say this game is probably Dying Light 2.

Marchewka even mentioned Dying Light 2 in a separate question on whether or not they’d make another Dead Island game, considering the studio is now putting out remastering the original Dead Island for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in the Dying Light engine.

Both games have been in development for roughly a year. Techland currently employs around 300 people, with both internal studios splitting the staff nearly in half (they’re also hiring). Marchewka added that both games are “equally big projects,” and he confirmed they’ll release “within three years.”

Finally, Marchewka flatly denied that the open-world fantasy game could be Hellraid, a dark-fantasy action game that Techland put on hold roughly a year ago. “No,” he said. “I mean maybe there are some technical elements … there will be probably some knowledge from that, but no it had nothing to do with it, no.”

Dead Island: Definitive Collection is launching on May 31st across PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
