Not long after Bandai Namco shared a Tales of series 30th anniversary video, the series producer shared a separate video talking up the series’ future.
Speaking in the new 30th anniversary video, Tales of series producer Yusuke Tomizawa teased that older remasters are planned.
“This year we have announced three remasters,” Tomizawa said, “But since they have been relatively recent works in order of completion, we’ll continue to move forward with the project so that we can bring you even more classic works from the past.”
It’s worth noting the original game in the series, Tales of Phantasia, hasn’t been available on modern platforms for over a decade. Its only western release was on the Game Boy Advance, back in 2006. With how popular HD-2D style games are, a remake/remaster in that style would make sense.
Despite the blatant tease for remastering older games in the franchise, the producer reiterated that new games are the bread and butter for the beloved RPG series.
“At the same time, we will also be making serious preparations for the future,” the Tales producer said. “New stories and encounters with new characters are the most important thing for Tales, and are what fans look forward to.”
The series producer also talked up how massive modern games, let alone big-budget Japanese RPGs, have become – both in cost and development time.
“With the evolution of home video games, we have entered an era where it takes much longer to create a single game than before,” Tomizawa said. “But development of completely new titles has continued unabated since our 30th anniversary and and will continue into the future.”
Fans might be disappointed to hear a new Tales of game might take awhile, though Tomizawa asked fans for their patience.
“Although we are not yet at a stage where we can say anything specific, please look forward to the future of Tales of,” Tomizawa said.
The latest release in the series, Tales of Xillia Remastered, was released back in October 2025 for PC and consoles. The next remaster release, Tales of Berseria Remastered, is launching on February 27th, 2026. A remaster for Tales of Xillia 2 is also in development.
