Announced last year, not many people knew what to make of Telltale game’s point-and-click Borderlands adventure game. Taking an RPG/FPS hybrid and repackaging it as a much more story-driven and hands-off type of game seemed a bit risky, especially considering twitch gaming fans may not find it exciting enough to buy.
That could be wrong, since among the details recently revealed by Telltale, this spinoff *will* have shooting elements. The only difference is that they will be handled in, quote, “A Telltale kind of way”.
As for the story itself, the game will consist of several flashback scenes that can be replayed through the eyes of either of the two main characters. These characters, Rhys (No Relation to the Phantasy Star 3 hero, I hope) and Fiona, are not connected to the heroes of the last two Borderlands titles (as far as we know), but those original heroes will presumably have cameo roles within the story.
Even with the shooting elements and the brutal nature of the source material, Telltale reassured fans that the spinoff will contain the same comedic sensibilities that Sam and Max and Monkey Island became famous for.
Tales From The Borderlands is due out on digital distribution sometime this year.
