The prequel to the rest of the action-adventure Yakuza series, Yakuza 0, has finally revealed more of itself. In a live demonstration of its environments, featured above, we’re taken on a leisurely stroll through what the fictional districts of Kamurocho and Soutenbori would have looked like in 1988.
Kamurocho is based on the real-world, red-light district of Kabukicho, Tokyo, while Soutenbori is its ostensibly more wholesome counterpart. Both fictional districts are beautifully realized, each exhibiting a distinct personality, and so are its inhabitants, who behave in such a way that it really does seem like they’re real people. (Sega makes a rather neat cameo in the world as a brick-and-mortar store, too.)
Sega have previously released a 15-minute story trailer for the game. Go check that out if you haven’t yet.
Yakuza 0 will release on March 12th, 2015 in Japan, for both PlayStation 3 and 4. Unfortunately, there’s been no news of a Western localization.
