A Taiwanese otaku is credited with helping stop a knife attack on the metro in Taichung city.

Referred to as “the long hair guy“, the individual is one of 17 good samaritans credited with helping preserve life during the attack. The attack fell on the 10th anniversary of a similar attack on the Taipei metro in 2014.

When receiving the award, he reportedly said that if he were the hero Himmel, he would do the same.

Himmel the hero is a character in the popular anime series Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. The series follows the titular elf Frieren who’s on a journey to the far north to see where spirits go, and possibly reunite with Himmel after he dies of old age.

He accepted his award while wearing a Monster Hunter licensed haori jacket.
