Taiwanese Horror Game “Devotion” Won’t Be Returning Soon

While the publisher of Taiwanese horror game Devotion recently noted they’ve been essentially blocked from operations by the Chinese government, developer Red Candle Games have been quietly trying to get the game reinstated. They’ve now gone on the record to say that probably isn’t happening, either – at least not anytime soon.

Red Candle Games has finally broken the silence on what is going on with the game, in a new update on their Twitter. The developer’s co-founders have decided “to not re-release Devotion in the near tearm,” and that they might reconsider that if circumstances were different.

Their statement notes that the entire debacle “was indeed a malfunction of project management, not a deliberate act.” As such, Red Candle would consider re-releasing the game if “the public would be willing to view this game rationally and allow us the opportunity to rebuild trust with our players.”

To recap, the game was pulled shortly after players had discovered a hidden message in the game that allegedly mocks current President of China, Xi Jinping. Red Candle Games denied such a message existed, pulled the game, and have been mostly silent ever since.
