We’ve learned that a System Shock remake is officially happening.

The news comes via an interview with Fastcompany and Night Dive Studios founder Stephen Kick. Night Dive acquired the full rights to the franchise, and are planning an entire remake of the original game.

Kick is working alongside the game’s original concept artist to reimagine its themes and aesthetics.

“Seeing the difference between his artistic abilities back then compared to now, and his ability to reinterpret those ideas, it’s just been really exciting for us,” Kick said in the interview.

Finally, the plan is to release a console version for the game alongside its expected PC version, making this a first for Night Dive Studios. Kick even teases a System Shock 3 down the line, but he said they’ll need a bigger publisher for this to happen.
