System Shock remake gets tentative March 2023 release

System Shock remake

Publisher Prime Matter and developer Nightdive Studios shared an update for the System Shock remake, firming up its release date.

The game slipped away from release in 2022 but is now set to finally launch sometime in March 2023 across Windows PC (via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.

Nightdive has set release targets in the past but now says they’ve moved onto the “last major steps” in development for the System Shock remake – thanks to publisher Prime Matter.

“As some of you have already pointed out this is not our first time announcing a tentative launch window, but over the past few years much has changed,” Nightdive said.

They added, “The scope and scale of the project has evolved dramatically and with Prime Matter joining the project it’s enabled us to focus on quality-of-life improvements, bug fixing, and localization support – the last major steps towards releasing a game we’re all incredibly proud of. This has also given us time to go back and polish various aspects of the game that needed that extra shine.”

The studio also teased new stuff for the System Shock remake, like a makeover for the Citadel space station, as well as new enemy variants to challenge new and returning players later in the game. There’s also updated effects for weapons like the Plasma Rifle, and the game sports a “completely new” dismemberment system.
