Bandai Namco has announced (via Dengeki Online) Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita.
The game was announced at this year’s Dengeki Bunko Fall Festival in Akihabara. Originally teased back at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, the latest in the ongoing franchise is set to launch in Japan sometime next year.
Featured above, you can view the game’s debut trailer.
The new game is set in a new virtual reality MMORPG called “Sword Art: Origin.” While this will still feature Kirito and Asuna, the servers of the original death game Sword Art Online are making the foundation for this new game, with its premise being research and development.
It’s not clear if this is canon, a spin-off, or an entirely new story, but we do know the new VRMMORPG is reminiscent of the original SAO. The story begins as Kirito receives a strange message, although further details weren’t confirmed.

Finally, Bandai Namco has announced a “PlayStation 4 Sword Art Online: Game Director’s Edition Aincrad” PlayStation 4 console, which is coming in both Jet Black and Glacier White. The new limited edition PlayStation 4 will be available on the Sony Store, and it will launch alongside Sword Art Online: Game Director’s Edition (which comes with the PS4 version of Sword Art Online: Lost Song and promo code for Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment) in Japan on November 19th. It will cost 42,980 yen. Pre-orders are opening up tomorrow, October 5th, at 11:00 a.m. Japan time.
