Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has announced Nintendo Switch games will be playable on the Switch successor.
The news that first generation Nintendo Switch games are playable on the Switch successor means the new console will have to support the games both digitally and physically with the original cartridges.
Here’s the statement from Furukawa:
This is Furukawa. At today’s Corporate Management Policy Briefing, we announced that Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Switch Online will be available on the successor to Nintendo Switch as well. Further information about the successor to Nintendo Switch, including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date.
Details on the Switch successor are still scant – we basically only know it exists and it won’t be released until the next fiscal year.
