We’ve learned the Nintendo Switch 2 will possibly bring “Switch 2 Edition” games with improvements from their original versions.
The new reveal comes via the recently unveiled Virtual Game Card system planned for both the Switch and the Switch 2, a new system of trading and lending digital licenses of games.
Buried at the bottom of the exciting new system announcement are footnotes that reveal the existence of “Switch 2 Edition games” alongside the expected “Switch 2 exclusive games.”
The former of the game types in the note suggests games originally launched for Switch 1 will get enhanced, native Switch 2 ports, similar to native ports on Xbox Series X|S and PS5.
As with native, upgraded ports for Xbox Series X|S and PS5, the Switch 2 Edition games will likely bring higher resolutions, improved framerates, faster loading times, and more.
A full proper reveal Nintendo Direct for the Nintendo Switch 2 is planned for that on April 2nd – we’ll report on it live.
