Paradox Interactive have announced city builder Surviving Mars will be free to buy and own via Steam for a mere 24 hours.

Players venture onto the red planet, attempting to colonize it for humanity. Build domed buildings, undertake static and random research, grow food, mine, and keep your colonists alive. In spite of their own problems and weaknesses, each colonist’s strength can be put to good use.

Until September 8th 10:00 a.m. PDT (1:00 p.m. EDT) the game will be free to buy, and own permanently. As with all free Steam games, players will not be able to obtain Steam trading cards. The game’s digital deluxe edition is also currently 75% off, and the Surviving Mars: First Colony Edition bundle is 70% off.

Surviving Mars is a sci-fi city builder all about colonizing Mars and surviving the process. Choose a space agency for resources and financial support before determining a location for your colony. Build domes and infrastructure, research new possibilities and utilize drones to unlock more elaborate ways to shape and expand your settlement. Cultivate your own food, mine minerals or just relax by the bar after a hard day’s work. Most important of all, though, is keeping your colonists alive. Not an easy task on a strange new planet.
