Vostok Games have announced that Survarium is shutting down at the end of the month.
Vostok Games announced in a Steam news update that their post-apocalyptic survival shooter Survarium is shutting down on May 31st, 2022, 23:59 Kyiv time. While the Ukranian devs noted in an earlier update that the Russian invasion made continued development difficult, Survarium‘s looming demise was previously announced back in early February.
In this prior announcement, Vostok Games note that they are moving on to a new project, and that they planned to announce Survarium is shutting down by the end of May.
In April, Vostok Games shut down the in-game store and gave everyone 50,000 gold and 500,000 silver so they could unlock gear and have a chance to play around with it before the game shuts down. There was to be a number of final tweaks and in-game events to commemorate Survarium, though it appears that some of this content was unable to be released due to some developers having to relocate during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Despite releasing in April of 2015, Survarium was never a “finished” game, and has remained in Steam Early Access this entire time. The decision to move on to new projects was likely due to Survarium‘s inability to find a large and stable fanbase. A quick look at Steam Charts shows that Survarium‘s peak player count was 4,340, and quickly dropped off in the months after launch. The game’s average daily player counts have sat in the 200-300 range for years, with a mere 34 players online at the time of writing.
Should you wish to return for one last mission in the wasteland, or even try out Survarium for the first time before its gone, you have until May 31st, 2022.
