Support Ending For Limbic’s Might & Magic X

If you remember, yours truly did a review of Ubisoft’s indie-developed and faithful old-school dungeon crawler back in February and found it to be quite the worthy entry in that long-running series. Regardless, the game’s developers posted a depressing bit of news on their blog that proclaimed support for the game would be ending.

This is especially troubling, since many bugs still exist in both the main game and its expansion, chief among them a memory leak that results in engine faults, poor performance and textures that eventually fail to load. This abandoning of support for the game could be due to the lackluster reception the DLC received, which thoroughly killed any desire on Ubisoft’s half to make more content for the game. As someone who played the DLC and suffered through all of its poorly balanced combat, I’m not surprised.

Regardless, Might & Magic X was a great trip through a long-forgotten series and there is nothing preventing an 11th game from being produced. Still, it’s a shame that the tenth game has to remain unpatched as the team is dissolved and sent to work on other titles. Five months didn’t give the team enough time to fix everything they needed to and you can’t blame them for not trying. Perhaps modders can tackle what the developers couldn’t.
